Why Atlantic Pacific Lines for Air Freight

Six Capabilities That Make Atlantic Pacific Lines the Right Air Freight Partner

Every capability below is operational, not a promise. APL's air freight team applies each one to every booking regardless of shipment size.

01
Authorization

TSA IAC Status Opens Passenger Belly Capacity

Passenger belly hold space represents 40 to 60 percent of total available air freight capacity on major trade lanes. Without TSA Indirect Air Carrier authorization, a forwarder cannot access it. Atlantic Pacific Lines holds active TSA IAC status, meaning APL tenders cargo to commercial passenger aircraft, not only freighters, giving clients more capacity options at better rates.

02
Carrier Network

30+ Airlines, Including Backup Carriers, on Every Lane

APL maintains preferred relationships with 30+ airlines plus alternative backup carriers on every major trade lane. When a primary carrier has no available uplift due to peak demand or schedule disruption, APL moves cargo on an alternative carrier the same day rather than holding it for the next available slot.

03
Service Programs

Three Air Programs Matched to Your Actual Deadline

Next-flight-out for genuine emergencies. Time-definite for scheduled supply chain requirements where a specific delivery date is non-negotiable. Deferred economy for cost-sensitive cargo where the transit window is flexible. Atlantic Pacific Lines selects the program that matches your deadline, not the most expensive available option.

All three programs bookable same day
04
Coverage

Origin to Destination Under One Account

APL manages origin pickup, export documentation, HAWB issuance, airline booking, destination customs clearance, and last-mile delivery under a single account. There is no handoff between the air forwarder, the customs broker, and the delivery carrier. Atlantic Pacific Lines owns every step from door to door.

Visibility

Live AWB Tracking With Proactive Delay Response

Every APL air shipment is monitored against scheduled milestones: departure, transshipment, customs release, and delivery. When a delay is detected, APL contacts the shipper with a status update and alternative options before the shipper needs to ask. Reactive communication is not how APL operates.

What air freight services does Atlantic Pacific Lines offer? +
APL offers next-flight-out for urgent cargo, time-definite express for scheduled supply chain delivery requirements, and deferred economy programs for cost-sensitive shipments. Atlantic Pacific Lines also handles air charter, perishable cargo, and high-value shipments with full door-to-door customs clearance at origin and destination.
What certifications does APL hold for air freight? +
Atlantic Pacific Lines holds active IATA certification as an air freight forwarder since 2012 and TSA approval as an Indirect Air Carrier. These two authorizations together allow APL to issue House Air Waybills, access passenger belly cargo capacity on commercial airlines, and handle dangerous goods under IATA DGR. C-TPAT compliance expedites U.S. customs clearance for all air imports.
How long does air freight take from the USA? +
Transit times depend on destination and service program. Priority next-flight-out reaches Europe in 1 to 2 days, Asia-Pacific in 2 to 4 days, and Latin America in 1 to 2 days. Deferred programs add 2 to 3 days on most lanes. Atlantic Pacific Lines provides confirmed transit estimates tied to your specific origin airport, destination, and service level at the quoting stage.
Can APL handle pharmaceutical and temperature-sensitive air cargo? +
Yes. APL manages pharmaceutical air freight under GDP Chapter 9 requirements including temperature-controlled ULD selection, cold tarmac exposure management protocols, chain of custody documentation, and Certificate of Temperature Compliance at destination. IATA CEIV carrier certification is confirmed where shipper quality agreements require it.
What documents are required for air freight export from the USA? +
U.S. air exports require a Commercial Invoice, Packing List, Shipper's Letter of Instruction, Air Waybill, and AES/EEI filing above the applicable threshold. IATA DGR Shipper's Declaration is required for dangerous goods. FDA Prior Notice is required for regulated food and drug products. Export licenses for ITAR or EAR-controlled commodities are reviewed and filed by Atlantic Pacific Lines before any shipment departs.
What is chargeable weight in air freight and how is it calculated? +
Chargeable weight in air freight is the greater of actual gross weight in kilograms or volumetric weight, calculated by multiplying the shipment length by width by height in centimeters and dividing by 6,000. Airlines charge based on whichever figure is higher because light, bulky cargo occupies more aircraft space relative to its weight. For example, a shipment measuring 100cm x 80cm x 60cm has a volumetric weight of 80 kilograms. If the actual weight is 40 kilograms, the shipper pays for 80 kilograms. Atlantic Pacific Lines calculates chargeable weight from actual packing list dimensions before quoting so the rate presented matches what is invoiced.
How does Atlantic Pacific Lines handle air freight visibility and shipment delays? +
Atlantic Pacific Lines tracks every Air Waybill (AWB) against scheduled milestones including departure, transshipment, customs release, and delivery. In the event of a delay, APL executes a proactive response protocol, providing the shipper with a status update and alternative routing options immediately, ensuring supply chain visibility is maintained from origin to destination.
